ClaudiaTenney Working To Aid Laid-Off Remington Workers at Ilion Plant

Ilion, NY -ClaudiaTenney, former US Representative and Republican candidate for New York’s 22nd District, reacted to news that the employees at the Remington ArmsIlion plant have been laid off effective October 26, 2020. Tenney immediately expressed her sympathies for the workers and their families and moved to get them help from the White House and federal agencies.

ClaudiaTenney said: “I am deeply saddened by the news that Remington’s hardworking and loyal employees have been let go. My heart goes out to them. We are not done fighting for the workers and their families yet. Upon hearing the news, I personally reached out to both the White House and the Treasury Department and appealed to them for help in this hour of great need for the workers and their families. I will keep fighting to get them the resources they need to get through this and come out stronger. The Ilion plant in Herkimer county has been making products of the highest craftsmanship since 1816 and has proven to be a vital asset to our community, our economy, and our nation. Generations of families have dedicated their careers and life’s work to making Remington a success. It has been the very heart of our community in the Mohawk Valley for over two centuries. I will continue to work with UMWA 717 to ensure its workers receive the pensions, healthcare, and livelihoods they have earned through their blood, sweat, and tears.”

A tireless advocate for Remington and its employees, Tenney was again endorsed by the UMWA 717 for Congress in 2020. In Congress, she worked to help sustain the employees’ pensions and has supported the plant and its employees throughout her career in public service.
