Started “Congresswoman in Your Classroom” Skype series to bring civics to life in classrooms across the 22nd District.
When devastating flooding hit Upstate New York, Claudia went to work. She climbed through muddy basements and visited homes and businesses impacted by flooding from Broome County to Oneida County to ensure FEMA and first responders had the information necessary to help property owners get the resources they needed to rebuild their lives.
FIGHTING FOR UPSTATE NEW YORK
In Congress, Claudia worked tirelessly to advance common sense, bipartisan legislation to bring back jobs, revive our Upstate economy, reduce onerous taxes and regulations, reform the VA, secure the border and fix our broken health care system.
In September 2017, the House unanimously passed Claudia’s amendment to increase Community Development Block Grant Funding by $10 million.This was a huge win for our Upstate communities.
In Congress, Claudia voted to provide $2.6 billion for infrastructure development, housing needs and loans to help expand our rural small businesses.
Claudia secured nearly $1 million for Griffiss Airport in Rome, over $1 million for Binghamton Airport.
Claudia championed Medicaid and food stamp program reforms (eliminating fraud and waste in the Farm Bill) that provide critical relief to Upstate New York.
Reformed the failed Margin Protection Program for dairy farmers and led the cause to stop unfair trade policies imposed by Canada on certain milk products.

SPOONSS ACT
Claudia led the Made in America movement in Congress, including introducing the SPOONSS Act, which would restore a longtime domestic sourcing requirement for stainless steel flatware and create jobs right here in the 22nd District.
Claudia saw a need and acted swiftly and decisively to bring help to an entire region in Upstate New York. Claudia worked closely with leadership at Sherrill Manufacturing in crafting this legislation. The SPOONSS Act sought to make Sherrill Manufacturing the exclusive manufacturer of flatware for the U.S. military.
FIGHTING FOR OUR SENIORS
Claudia fought tirelessly for seniors in Upstate New York, touring senior centers in every corner of the district and working to deliver hundreds of thousands of dollars in back Social Security benefits to Upstate New York’s seniors.
Claudia supported the American Healthcare Act which eliminated many job crushing taxes imposed by Obamacare that drive up the costs of things like prescription drugs and medical devices.
Claudia cosponsored the bipartisan Hospital Access Act, which would permanently extend the Medicare Dependent Hospital and Low-Volume Hospital programs.
TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Claudia led Congress on transparency– she made sure to explain every vote on Facebook so voters knew exactly where she stood on the issues and how she was representing them.
Claudia had countless meetings and roundtables across NY-22 including, town hall events and Coffee With Claudia Community Forum meetings.
REBUILDING OUR ECONOMY
NY-22 was once a thriving hub of manufacturing and innovation, but failed policies have caused our region to suffer the fate of too many rustbelt communities. Soaring taxes and onerous regulations have created an uneven playing field, causing businesses and people to leave our state in record numbers.
In Congress, Claudia championed the Property Tax Reduction Act that would provide the most significant relief for Upstate property tax payers in a generation.
As a member of the House Manufacturing Caucus, Claudia lead the effort to bring jobs back to Upstate NY by reigniting our manufacturing base with legislation she helped introduce that not only created new opportunities for domestic manufacturers in NY-22 like Sherrill Manufacturing, but also worked to roll back regulations in order to spark economic growth and job creation.
SPENDING AND GOVERNMENT REFORM
Claudia has a long record of standing up against wasteful government spending. In Albany, she was the leading voice against Governor Cuomo’s out-of-control spending, including being one of the first to stand up against the failed Start-Up NY program.
In Congress, she continued this same fight against wasteful Washington spending. Claudia cosponsored the Balanced Budget Amendment and a bill to end career politician syndrome by enacting term limits.
Claudia helped pass the first on-time, fiscally responsible government spending bill in over a decade.
REBUILDING OUR MILITARY AND NATIONAL DEFENSE
Claudia helped pass the largest pay increase to our troops in over 6 years.
As the mother of a Marine, Claudia understands that we must provide our military with the resources they need to successfully complete their mission. The primary responsibility of the federal government is to provide for our national defense and border security. That’s why Claudia fought to increase resources in these areas and undo the harmful cuts to our military that occurred over the last decade.
PUTTING OUR VETERANS FIRST
Claudia has always stood up for our veterans and in Congress she led the fight to implement a culture of accountability at the VA. We must honor the promises and commitments to our veterans by ensuring the care they need is always available and delivered in a timely fashion. That is why Claudia introduced and passed the Department of Veterans Affairs Bonus Transparency Act, which would increase oversight of bonuses at the VA.
Claudia worked tirelessly to deliver unpaid VA benefits back to our Upstate veterans.
Claudia held veteran roundtables throughout NY-22 to hear directly from our community’s veterans on the issues that mattered the most to them.
COMBATING THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC
We continue to see effects of the opioid epidemic in our Upstate communities. In Congress, Claudia voted in support of new funding for addiction and recovery treatment programs and acted to streamline assistance and support to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to reduce drug trafficking and production.
Claudia also voted to provide $25 million in resources to combat the opioid epidemic across New York State.
In Congress, Claudia authored a bill signed into law to crack down on illegal Chinese Fentanyl among others.
STANDING UP FOR OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS
Claudia has led the fight to defend our 2nd Amendment rights for years in Upstate New York. In Albany, she was the most vocal opponent to New York State’s unconstitutional SAFE Act and was the first elected official to introduce a bill to fully repeal the Governor’s gun grabbing SAFE Act.
Claudia does not support unproven gun control measures targeted at law abiding gun owners. In Washington she continued to be an uncompromising defender of our 2nd Amendment rights, cosponsoring the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and the Second Amendment Guarantee Act.
REINVESTING IN OUR RURAL COMMUNITIES
Claudia continues to support America’s rural economies. In Congress, she voted to provide $2.6 billion for infrastructure development, housing needs and loans to help expand our rural small businesses.
Claudia does not support unproven gun control measures targeted at law abiding gun owners. In Washington she continued to be an uncompromising defender of our 2nd Amendment rights, cosponsoring the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and the Second Amendment Guarantee Act.
Claudia visited rehab and treatment facilities across the district and held roundtable discussions with experts to bring the community together to find ways to combat the growing opioid epidemic.
DELIVERING REAL RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY
Claudia fought to secure vital resources for our communities. These are resources the constituents of the 22nd District rely on. When President Trump released his budget proposal, Claudia immediately stood up against cuts that would be detrimental to rural areas like the NY-22. After taking a firm stand, Claudia went to work to ensure that these programs remained in the budget and even secured an additional $10 million for the Community Development Block Grant program.
